Summer: FUBiS (Germany)
The Program
Wide-range of German language and content courses.
No previous knowledge of German is required for subject courses offered in English. Language courses are offered on all levels. Courses in History, Literature, and Economics are offered in English. Students can combine a subject course with a language course.

Berlin
Once divided, Berlin is once again the center of German politics, arts, and cultural life and the gateway to Eastern Europe. It is an East-West metropolis with something for everyone. Traverse the streets of Berlin and you will find the monumental Brandenburg Gate, the shops and bustling commerce on the Ku'damm and the hip Hackesche Hoefe district. In the Tiergarten the "House of World Cultures" presents a wealth of events and exhibitions featuring cultures from outside Europe.

Academics
Rutgers students may enroll in any in-person language classes in FUBIS Term II.
Program costs include numerous organized tours and weekend trips to other German cities and to leading museums and cultural institutions. To see a list of excursions offered in Summer II click here. These places will afford you a first-hand experience of Germany’s rich cultural heritage, Germany's emerging leadership role in the European Union, as well as its coming to terms with the legacy of National Socialism and the Holocaust and the lasting effects of the Cold War division on the country from 1945 through the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.

- Courses taught in German will be offered at the elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels. German-language topics courses are also available for students who place out of these levels of the language track. There is no German language prerequisite to be eligible for this program nor are students required to take German-language courses; beginning German language students are also welcome.
- Courses taught in English on a broad array of topics will give a unique, yet thorough, insight into German culture and society at the beginning of the 21st century.
- Both the courses taught in German and those taught in English may be counted toward the relevant requirements for the German major and minor, as well as toward the degree requirements of other Rutgers programs. Students should consult with their degree program’s Undergraduate Director in advance to confirm how credits will be applied to that program.

Housing and Meals
Freie Universität Berlin – like most German universities – does not own any student dorms or housing facilities. FUBiS arranges appropriate off-campus accommodation for the duration of the program as an optional service at the student’s request. Accommodation options can be chosen during the registration process. Accommodation is subject to availability.
Students will stay in a single room in a shared apartment (Studentenwerk) at FUBIS student dormitories.
Studentenwerk
Students will stay in individual rooms of approx. 12 sqm within a shared apartment of up to 6 bedrooms, sharing the bathroom and kitchen. The open living structure offers a familiar atmosphere and makes getting to know each other easier. The kitchens are equipped with cooker, fridge, cookware, and dishes.
Each room is furnished with a bed (including bed linen), a desk, bookshelf, a closet, and a chair. Towels are not included, so please bring your own. There is a laundry room with card operated washing machines and dryers available as well.

The above costs are estimations and represent the known out-of-pocket costs students encounter during their time abroad.
Some of these expenses will be paid for prior to going abroad, such as an airline ticket, while some of these expenses, such as meals and personal expenses, will be paid in-country as part of your daily expenses. As you plan, you will need to budget these costs and spend wisely throughout your time abroad.
