Useful Campus Resources

Beyond the services that Rutgers Global–International Student and Scholar Services provides to the Rutgers community, we are also fortunate to work closely with many university academic and service units that provide additional support for international students. Below is a list of resources that are available to facilitate your success at Rutgers and assist you in many ways during your time here:

Rutgers English Language Institute (for students of all levels)
The Rutgers English Language Institute (RELI) supports multilingual English language learners in all stages of their academic careers: pre-undergraduate, undergraduate, graduate, and professional.

Rutgers Writing Centers
The Writing Centers provide tutoring for students enrolled in Writing Program classes.

New International Student Orientation (Mandatory for new international students) 
This mandatory program helps international students navigate campus resources and make a successful transition to Rutgers. The ISO is a great opportunity for you to meet new friends and learn more about social and academic resources available to you.

Office of International Academic Support (for undergraduate students)

International students may face unique academic challenges. The Office of International Academic Support helps to identify and address those challenges so you can succeed in the classroom.

Offices of Dean of Students
These offices serve as a student support network that provide advocacy, problem resolution, and critical incident intervention for those times when additional assistance is needed.

Student Accounting
Student Accounting, Billing, and Cashier Services ensures the proper billing of your student account and provides professional, prompt, courteous service to resolve financial problems on an individual basis. They manage the charges and credits on your account including tuition, fees, housing, dining, miscellaneous fees and payments for every semester that you attend Rutgers.
Information about student fees, guidelines to paying bills, international transfers, etc. 

Career Exploration and Success
Career Exploration and Success is committed to assisting students with making connections between their academic experience and career paths. They have special staff, events, and programs for international students keeping in mind visa regulations and specific needs.

Office of Student Health Insurance
The Office of Student Health Insurance, part of Risk Management and Insurance, manages compliance in the Student Health Insurance Plan. The staff act as a liaison for students: enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) with UnitedHealthcare StudentResources (UHCSR), University Health Plans (Broker), the Insurance Coordinator at Rutgers Global , Rutgers Student Health, and off campus medical providers. The office assist students on the New Brunswick, Newark, and Camden campuses.  

Rutgers Student Health
Rutgers Student Health is dedicated to offering healthcare for the whole student body, mind, and spirit. In support of the Rutgers University mission, they provide health and wellness services, education, and leadership uniquely designed to meet the developmental and educational needs of the University students, enhancing the quality of life for the entire Rutgers Community.

Counseling, ADAP, and Psychiatric Services (CAPS)
CAPS provides and ensures quality services to Rutgers University – New Brunswick students by providing counseling services, clinical care, workshops, programs and support for the student community.

Office for Violence Prevention and Victim Assistance
The Office for Violence Prevention and Victim Assistance is committed to creating a community free from violence. It provides services designed to raise awareness of and respond to the impact of interpersonal violence and other crimes.

Center for Social Justice Education and LGBT Communities
The Center for Social Justice Education and LGBT Communities (SJE) provides educational and social programs, leadership development, and policy consultation for LGBTQIA and ally students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Rutgers University Police Department
The internationally accredited Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to provide the university community with a full range of police and security services.

Residence Life – On-Campus Housing
Residence Life serves the needs of residents who study, live, and play in around 140 buildings on four campuses in New Brunswick and Piscataway. Residence Life builds community, supports diversity, provides leadership opportunities to residents, responds to individual and community issues, and enables academic success through efforts in the residence halls.

Off-Campus Living and Community Partnerships
Rutgers Off-Campus Living and Community Partnerships is the central resource for students in the community- off-campus living, volunteering and spiritual exploration. They prepare students for life off-campus by assisting them with their housing search, including educational workshops focused on legal issues, safety, security and respect.

Rutgers University Student Legal Services
Rutgers University Student Legal Services (RUSLS) provides eligible Rutgers University students with professional legal advice and assistance at no cost by attorneys licensed to practice in the State of New Jersey. The office provides services and referrals for international students to have their questions answered so that their legal issues do not interfere with their academic pursuit

Major Events and Programs
The Office of Major Events and Programs at Rutgers provides opportunities to find community and make memories outside of the classroom at events appealing to a diverse student body on all five campuses.

Student Involvement
Student Involvement serves over 450 student organizations and their student leaders through advisement, organizational development programs and support services.

Rutgers Recreation
Rutgers Recreation a full service recreation department offering instructional classes, personal training, fitness assessments, intramurals, club sports, aquatics programming, fitness centers and so much more.

Office of Information Technology
The Office of Information Technology provides excellence in information technology support and service. 

Parent and Family Programs
The Office of New Student Orientation and Family Programs believes that for students to succeed at Rutgers they need the support of not just faculty and staff members but their parents and families. When Rutgers and the families of Rutgers students partner together, students receive important messages and consistent support both inside and at home.

Zimmerli Art Museum
Visit the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University - one of the largest and most distinguished university-based museums in the country. It collects, preserves, researches, and exhibits world-class works of art to provide the university community and diverse regional, national, and international audiences with direct experience of the visual arts.

New Brunswick, New Jersey is a vibrant city of 50,000 residents. It is a community with richly diverse neighborhoods, a bustling downtown with varied dining and shopping options, and an innovative and popular cultural arts center.

Applying for a US Drivers’s License
If you are an F or J student studying in the United States, you can apply for a driver’s license. You may be eligible for this benefit, but remember that it is illegal to drive in the United States without a driver’s license. Make sure you know and follow the rules.
