On June 20, 2018, Rutgers Global hosted the NAFSA Region X Annual Downstate New York and New Jersey State Conference on the Rutgers University–New Brunswick campus.
Approximately 90 international education professionals from institutions around the region—including Columbia University, Stevens Institute of Technology, and The Julliard School—attended the daylong conference to discuss new initiatives, helpful resources, and best practices.
Sessions covered topics such as enhancing international student satisfaction on and off campus, the global impact on migration, media portrayal of study abroad, and more. The conference also included a question and answer session with government representatives from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Social Security Administration, and the Student and Exchange Visitor Program.
Katsumi Kishida, Assistant Director of Programming at Rutgers Global–International Student and Scholar Services and the New Jersey State Representative for NAFSA Region X, was one of the organizers of the conference.
“As the NAFSA Region X NJ state representative, I enjoyed planning and hosting the conference with the Region X team," Kishida said. "It was great to see all of our colleagues from the area come together and share their expertise, knowledge, and experience through the diverse sessions and networking.”
The day ended with an open house event at Rutgers Global–International Student and Scholar Services.
