Alex Hinton

Alex Hinton has lectured across the globe about genocide, atrocity crimes, justice, and the aftermaths of mass violence. His research interests include sociocultural and psychological anthropology, genocide and political violence, transitional justice and human rights, Southeast Asia (with a focus on Cambodia), culture and mind, globalization and modernity; self and emotion, and anthropology and critical theory. In 2016, Hinton served as an expert witness at the Khmer Rouge Tribunal.

Nela Navarro
Associate Director, Center for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights

Nela Navarro is the associate director and member of the UNESCO Chair for Genocide Prevention at the Center for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights. Her research and community engagement interests include language and identity, new literacies studies, critical pedagogy, writing as sites of recursive memory, textbook analysis, educational reform, comparative global education, the role of technology in educational access, genocide, human rights and peace. 

Kurt Schock

Kurt Schock’s research aims to understand the logic and dynamics of nonviolent struggle as well as the consequences of violent and nonviolent strategies of resistance. He has examined the role of unarmed resistance in challenging the direct violence of authoritarian regimes as well as in challenging the structural violence of inequalities in the distribution of land. He is currently examining constellations of resistance to land enclosures in various world-historical eras. For more:

Yahong Zhang

Yahong Zhang is the director of the
Rutgers Institute on Anti-Corruption Studies (RIACS) which conducts research on private and public corruption and devises ways to reduce it. The institute has established a global network of associates, and these renowned researchers and practitioners build on their experience and work collaboratively with Rutgers faculty to help achieve the mission.

Center for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights

The Rutgers–Newark Center for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights’ mission is to understand and prevent genocide and mass atrocity crimes. In doing so, the center takes a critical prevention approach. The center has established itself as a leader in the study of world challenges ranging from the devastation of genocide to the process of conflict resolution and peacebuilding.
