Rutgers Global: Global Vision and Voices Series

As part of its Global Visions and Voices Series, Rutgers Global is proud to present “The Transformation in India-U.S. Relations,” featuring Mr. Sandeep Chakravorty, Consul General of India (New York) and Dr. Waheguru Pal Singh Sidhu, from New York University’s Center for Global Affairs. Mr. Chakravorty and Dr. Singh will both present talks, and then engage in a conversation and Q&A. This program is free and open to the Rutgers community and the general public.

Sandeep ChakravortySandeep Chakravorty, a member of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) since 1996, has served in India’s Missions in several countries. Prior to becoming Consul General of India in New York in August, 2017, he was the Ambassador of India to Peru and Bolivia. Earlier he had been India’s Deputy Chief of Mission in Bangladesh. He has also served in Indian Embassies in Madrid and Bogota. In India’s Ministry of External Affairs he has held several positions including Press Relations Officer, Staff Officer to Minister and worked on desks dealing with Central Asia, East Asia and China. Before joining the Government, Mr. Chakravorty worked with civil society organizations dealing with natural resources and environmental issues. He has a Master’s degree in Advanced Studies in International Security from Geneva University, a Master’s degree in Sociology besides a Post Graduate Diploma in Forestry Management. He graduated in Physics from Delhi University. He speaks Hindi, Bangla and Spanish fluently. 

WPS SidhuWaheguru Pal Singh (W.P.S.) Sidhu is associate professor at the Center for Global Affairs, New York University. Concurrently, he is an associate fellow at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy and a guest faculty at the NATO Defense College. Dr. Sidhu has more than 25 years of experience in traditional and non-traditional security issues, specifically in arms control and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction – particularly nuclear weapons – and the role of emerging powers, especially India, in the evolving global order. His previous academic and professional positions include vice president of programs at the EastWest Institute, and director of the innovative New Issues in Security Course at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy. Dr. Sidhu has also served as a consultant to the UN and its affiliate agencies, and to other intergovernmental agencies. In addition to his pedagogic experience, he regularly organizes and conducts track-two projects with institutions in the US, Europe, China, India, and Pakistan to facilitate a dialogue among young scholars on international peace and security issues. He is the author of multiple books, chapters, and articles dealing with defense and security issues. His latest publication is Shaping the Emerging World: India and the Multilateral Order.
