Rutgers Global hosted its annual Study Abroad Fall Fair on September 24 in the Livingston Student Center and welcomed nearly 600 students who came to learn about the 100+ study abroad programs in 40+ countries around the world that Rutgers offers.

The number of students studying abroad at Rutgers has grown in the years since the pandemic shut down all international travel. For the 2023-2024 academic year, Rutgers celebrated the highest participation in years, with 932 Rutgers students studying all over the globe in short-term, semester, and full academic year programs.

At the Fall Fair, students were treated to a carnival-themed experience in the Livingston Student Center with games and prizes, snacks like popcorn, cotton candy, and hot dogs, and an artist sketching caricatures of students. (The Scarlet Knight seemed really happy with his sketch.) Students could mingle and stop at tables to ask questions, pick up information, and score some swag.

There were 50 tables set up with program providers and university partners, as well as Rutgers academic departments that run study abroad and service-learning programs, including The School of Management and Labor Relations, School of Public Health, School of Nursing, Rutgers Business School, School of Social Work, and the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. In addition, language departments, including Spanish and Portuguese, German, French, Russian and Polish, and Italian, had tables offering study abroad opportunities and advising on programs.

Additional tables were set up with Global Ambassadors, Rutgers students who have studied abroad and can answer questions and share their experiences, as well as with advisors offering guidance on financial aid and academic planning.

There are currently 103 Rutgers students studying abroad for the fall semester and the full academic year.

Deadlines are approaching, including October 1 for winter and spring semester programs. Students have a bit more time for spring break programs with a deadline of December 1. The deadline for study abroad programs for the summer and fall of 2025 is March 1, 2025.

Rocio Ruiz, Assistant Director at Rutgers Global Study Abroad, noted, “We were thrilled to see so many students attend our Fall Fair. We had 139 students complete our interest form and saw many students having engaged conversations at our tables. We believe that more and more Rutgers students understand the value of studying abroad and we look forward to helping them achieve their goals.”
