China Initiatives

Connecting Rutgers University and China

Rutgers has a deep and rich relationship with China. Through the years, more faculty members are engaged in research collaboration with Chinese colleagues; more Rutgers students are choosing to study in and about China; and more Chinese students are applying to Rutgers.

The Rutgers Global China Initiatives were established to shape the direction of high-quality education, research, and service engagements with and about China. The office proudly offers scholarships to international students who wish to study in China; supports long-standing partnerships with Chinese universities; and offers short term specialized programs for international students and English-language teachers.

ROSE Program

Rutgers Overseas Semester Experience (ROSE)

The ROSE Initiative (Rutgers Overseas Semester Experience) is a program designed for first-year undergraduate students from China whose ability to come to the United States to attend Rutgers in the fall of 2020 may be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ROSE program offers Chinese students the opportunity to experience their first semester of Rutgers at a partner university campus in China. Due to concerns of COVID-19 as well as partner capacity, four locations with Chinese universities (which are in final discussions) have been considered to mitigate these challenges which include Beijing, Guangzhou, Haikou, and Shanghai.

The ROSE program is a voluntary option for newly admitted students in lieu of beginning a Rutgers semester fully online or deferring admission.
