İstanbul is a lively city with a rich cultural heritage, thanks to its geographical location. With more than 8000 years of glamorous history, the city has always been an important metropolis as the former capital of many empires, including Roman, Byzantine, Latin and Ottoman. İstanbul fascinates visitors with the precious ancient monuments and its unique beauty with the Bosphorus passing across the city to separate Europe and Asia.

High standards of education, internationally recognized degrees and modern campuses with outstanding facilities are also the reasons why many students from all around the world are attracted to Turkey and İstanbul. The city owns cultural phenomena of centuries. Some of the wonderful sites of İstanbul are Hagia Sophia, Sultanahmet Mosque, Maiden’s Tower, Dolmabahçe Palace, Basilica Cistern, Grand Bazaar, Galata Tower, Princes’ Islands, and many more.

Academics

At Koç, students choose classes in Archaeology & History of Art, Business, Chemistry, Economics, Engineering (Chemical & Biological, Computer, Electrical & Electronics, Industrial, & Mechanical), English & Comparative Literature, History, International Relations, Mathematics, Media & Visual Arts, Molecular Biology & Genetics, Philosophy, Physics, Psychology, and Sociology. In order to have an idea of what classes are available, you should visit the Koç University website.

You will need to be sure that you are registered as a full time student according to Koç and Rutgers University. That means you will need to take approximately 12-15 credits while abroad. The credit translation system between Koç and Rutgers University is 1:1, meaning a 3-credit course at Koç will also be a 3-credit course on your Rutgers University transcript.  It is not possible to take classes as not-for-credit or pass/fail.

Koc University student dormitories are located on the Main Rumelifeneri campus. Students typically reside in double or triple rooms. Each building is equipped with a laundry room, a kitchen and a lounge. Incoming students are usually matched with local KU students!
