International scholars come to Rutgers for a variety of reasons and through various channels. They may be hired by the university to teach or conduct research or pursue other academic endeavors alongside Rutgers faculty. Academic and research units enter into a cooperative arrangement with Rutgers Global when hosting international faculty and scholars under the university's visa sponsorship, and, when applicable, in serving as the sponsor of a green card for eligible employees.
The ISSS staff is available to answer any questions that international faculty and scholars may have about their immigration status at Rutgers. We advise on questions relating to extensions, changes of status, maintenance of status, travel, scope of permissible activities, and other matters relating to employment-based sponsorship. We also partner with university departments as some questions may require further consultation with sponsoring departments.
Spouses and child(ren) under the age of 21 of the F-1 or J-1 visa holder at Rutgers are considered dependents. Our advisors are here to help you and your family plan and prepare for your arrival to Rutgers.
