Expand your knowledge of Spanish culture, history, and art through excursions!

The Summer Study in Spain is ideal for students who wish to experience speaking Spanish while integrating in a culture known for its excellent food, art, and culture. Travel to gorgeous cities like Madrid and Salamanca while improving your linguistic skills.

Salamanca is home to Spain's oldest university and also what is generally accepted as the country's most beautiful Plaza Mayor. Located in the western part of the country near the border with Portugal, the city is known for its well-preserved historic center, its hearty castellano cooking (including wonderful cheeses and delicious Serrano ham), as well as for its sizeable student population. Not only does its university attract students from all over Spain, but also students from all over the world, who come to study Spanish language and culture there. This historic city is home to approximately 150,000 residents. The University of Salamanca, founded in the 13th century, stands as the oldest university in Spain and one of the oldest in all of Europe, currently catering to a student body of over 28,000 individuals. 

 

Academics

  • Earn 6 credits with courses that are pre-approved for your major, minor, certificate or school requirements.
  • Fulfill an SAS 21st Century core requirement (1).
  • Start learning or improve your Spanish proficiency by taking classes at the renowned Universidad de Salamanca.
  • Travel throughout Spain to expand your knowledge of Spanish culture, history, and art though excursions.

The Summer Study in Spain is ideal for students who wish to experience speaking Spanish while integrating in a culture known for its excellent food, art, and culture. Travel to gorgeous cities like Madrid and Salamanca while improving your linguistic skills.

Students will participate in a 4-week program with Spanish language and culture courses alongside other students. All students are enrolled in a Spanish Language course tailored to their proficiency level. Students can anticipate a daily schedule filled with classes from 9-2 pm. 

Students will also have the opportunity to participate in activities such as: Museum and cultural site visits, concerts, tapas tours, dance/cooking/pottery workshops, riverside picnics, horse riding, sports... Day trips to nearby destinations like Zamora, Toro, Avila,or Valladolid will be planned, offering activities such as exploring vineyards, local producers of cheese, meat, or other regional goods. 

Excursions while Abroad and Info sessions

You will travel through Spain in private coach and stay at hotels provided by the travel agency. Breakfast is included through hotels, however lunch and dinner are not. Students will be given time to explore the cities on their own.

Housing and Meals

Students will be offered the option to stay with families or in a residence.  While traveling through Spain students will stay at hotels provided by the travel agency.

The above costs are estimations and represent the known out-of-pocket costs students encounter during their time abroad.

Some of these expenses will be paid for prior to going abroad, such as an airline ticket, while some of these expenses, such as meals and personal expenses, will be paid in-country as part of your daily expenses. As you plan, you will need to budget these costs and spend wisely throughout your time abroad.
