Academics

The Summer Dance Intensive at the Accademia dell’Arte offers dancers the chance to explore self-generated and collaboratively created work and choreography over two 2-week intensives with various master teachers and choreographers. This month-long intensive was created to foster personal choreographic connection, promote storytelling through dance and enhance technical skills through a variety of styles and approaches. In the spirit of inter-pedagogical exchange, participants will also have the chance to engage in discussions with master teachers from both the dance and physical theatre tracks regarding their philosophies on performance making and choreography.

Housing and Meals

The Accademia dell’Arte campus is located at Villa Godiola, a restored renaissance villa just outside Arezzo. At the end of the 14th century, the Villa was built and purchased by the Bishop of Arezzo. Over the next several centuries, the Villa remained in the possession of the Bishop of Arezzo, eventually gaining the structure it has today. Student housing (double and triple rooms), as well as, rehearsal studios, classrooms, library, administrative offices, kitchen, dining hall and performance spaces are all located on the premises of Villa Godiola. The Accademia has additional studio and performance space at La Stalla and Palazzo Gozzari in the city center of Arezzo. Both the center of Arezzo and the city train station are readily accessible and are approximately 20 minute and 40 minutes walks, respectively (although times differ with each student’s pace). Taxis can be called from campus and a typical taxi ride to the train station costs about €10.

The Limonaia is a student social space found on the far side of the villa. There is also a small kitchen with a sink, refrigerator and a microwave oven. Students are responsible for coordinating the use of this space and are expected to cooperate with one another in the maintenance of the area. The Limonaia is the only student common area open 24 hours a day.

The program fee includes breakfast, lunch and dinner from Monday through Friday.
