In 2011, Rutgers was one of 11 universities selected to participate in the IIE IAPP India program to expand on more than ten comprehensive academic agreements between Rutgers and India. Some of the activities covered by these agreements include:
A study abroad program in social work to India
The establishment of a chair in Contemporary India Studies with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations
The Obama-Signh Knowledge Grant (OKSI) for capacity building and information exchange with the Tata Institute of Social Sciences
Rutgers faculty connections with Indian colleagues include collaborations in sociology, engineering, languages and literatures, history, geography, social work, business, and animal science, as well as agriculture and food. The South Asian Studies Program at Rutgers offers more than 80 courses and brings together more than 30 faculty members with expertise and interest in India.
