Rutgers, as a leader in international higher education, has achieved milestones that set the bar for other universities and catapulted the Rutgers name to the forefront of the global arena:
Rutgers leads Big Ten Academic Alliance schools in recruiting international students and scholars, with more than 9,000 across the university.
Rutgers also leads Big Ten Academic Alliance schools in institutional partnerships abroad, with more than 350 active relationships spanning all world regions.
Rutgers meets other global benchmarks set forth by the Big Ten Academic Alliance in terms of programming, research, and education.
We have many successes, but there are still areas where we can improve. Study abroad gives students a competitive edge in the workforce, improves language fluency, and allows them to gain an international competency that they bring back to campus; yet Rutgers has the third lowest study abroad enrollment among the 15-member Big Ten Academic Alliance, despite our substantial study abroad program catalog.
Our alumni can help by contributing to a study abroad endowment to help us send all students—no matter what their major, background, or financial situation may be—on a transformative educational experience abroad. In turn, Rutgers aims to raise study abroad enrollment through:
Distributing $300,000 in scholarships to study abroad and service-learning abroad; many from external funding sources like Gilman
Joining the Institute of International Educator’s Generation Study Abroad program — a comprehensive toolkit of professional development and marketing resources — to double enrollment by 2019
