Rutgers Department of Germanic, Russian and East European Languages and Literatures hosts a number of scholarly exchanges, guest lectures, conferences, and other events every year that bring scholars from the German and Slavic language-speaking world to campus. With the support of the Max Kade Foundation and Charlotte M. Craig, the department hosts a Scholar/Writer in Residence Program, which brings a scholar or writer active in contemporary German culture to Rutgers every year to teach a course and engage with the university community. Since its launch in 1998, the Charlotte M. Craig Distinguished Visiting Professorship brings a renowned professor of German Studies to Rutgers for the Spring Semester.

The Rutgers study abroad program offers a number of semester and full-year exchange programs for Rutgers students in Germany, including those at Berlin’s Freie Universität, the Universität Konstanz, and the EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht (European Business School of Economics and Law) in Oestrich-Winkel. In collaboration with Duke University, Rutgers also sponsors the Rutgers/Duke in Berlin program, which provides cultural and language training for students from Rutgers, Duke, and other colleges and universities across the United States.

The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences' (SEBS) Landscape Architecture program works closely with the Technical University of Munich in Germany to provide students opportunities to develop a more sophisticated understanding of their respective landscapes. Faculty members from plant biology are also working with researchers in Germany to develop transgenetically modified food to combat infectious diseases.
